SUMMARY
During 2013 end, Walmart decided to start new online pickup option for their Sams club members. With a solid team of 2 researchers, I was able to be involved in analyzing different types of studies such as survey, in person interviews and to practice both qualitative and quantitative analyses. However, the most exciting project for me was the ethnographic research study, 3 in home visits to understand how people currently use online stores to order grocery.
*I can't present the specific findings and design recommendations due to NDA with Walmart (This is applicable to all Walmart projects), but I can share the process.
OVERVIEW
I conducted a 3 week long research to understand how people currently use different methods to order online. I took online surveys as well as in person interviews to understand the situation better. I was responsible for recording videos, taking notes, analyzing qualitative feedback, visualizing quantitative results, and presenting insights (e.g. user pain points, SWOT analysis) to the various stakeholders in the team including designers, other researcher, product managers, and engineers.
GOAL & RESEARCH QUESTIONS
1. To understand how people currently use different methods to put their online grocery orders
2. What type of orders typically they order through online?
3. How soon they love to get their orders?
4. How often they are placing online orders?
5. What type of services they like most, when they want to pick up their grocery from stores?
6. How much time they may save if they place online order and pickup at their nearest stores?
7. Any other inputs(if any)?

CHALLENGES
1. Since it was beginning of online ordering Era, many people found hard to understand the situation.
2. The third-party agency recruited a few unqualified participants initially, which caused us wasting time long hours to interviewing with them.
3. A couple of sessions got canceled at the last minute.

OUTCOMES
1. Presentation deck with detailed findings in participant's online order placement behaviors.
2. User preferences while placing an online order placement.
3. The impact was to help the product team understand how people behave while placing order in an online environment, their satisfaction and pain points
4. Identify their needs and motivations in order to provide strong implications of online order placement design in the future.

REFLECTIONS
WHAT DID I LEARN?
1. Stay “whelmed” - neither overwhelmed nor underwhelmed. I used to say okay to everything because I think it represented a good personality of me that I was willing to try out different things. I exhibited good listening skills, than talking too much. It helped me to collect lot of new and unknown informations. 2. Record or collect all the data which you feel not helpful Because at some point you may find useful.
